one room challenge week 5 | home stretch

week 1 | week 2 | week 3 | week 4

We are officially entering the home stretch of our One Room Challenge bathroom remodel! If you are just now tuning in, you can check out weeks 1-4 through the links above.

Last weekend we finally made it to IKEA to get the vanity and of course we picked up a few other things, too. Like Target, you can never leave IKEA with just one item. While we mostly picked up stuff for the bathroom, Casey had to get Oatmeal a new stuffed animal and dog bed, obviously.

Last week, I talked about this forn Studio print being my favorite piece of decor for the bathroom. After printing and framing it, I am even more in love and can’t wait to see it hung up.

With the old cabinets knocked out in the bathroom, we still needed to decide on new storage. I knew I wanted to do an open shelving concept, but I wasn’t sure what color or style I wanted. The space between the wall and the toilet paper holder is only about 20″ wide, so I knew I was working within some constraints.

I also knew I wanted to do a darker piece since the walls will be light. I found this shelf at IKEA in the bathroom storage section Once I put it together and starting playing around with some of the decor I purchased, I ended up being super happy with this piece. It fits perfectly and will add some nice contrast.

If you remember from week one, the vanity we got came with silver pulls that I wanted to spray paint brass. I had some metallic gold spray paint at home and they turned out pretty good! One thing about brass and gold accents is that it is hard to find the same tone for every single piece. Since the brass accents I am using are all small and spread out, I think it will work.

The back wall of the shower was deep enough that we were able to create a couple built-in shelves. I wanted somewhere that I could store shampoo and body wash without it having to sit on the bathtub ledge.

This Week’s To-Dos:

  • Tile, tile, and more tile. We have a lot of tiling left to do still.
  • Paint the walls
  • Install vanity, toilet and fixtures
  • Photograph the space
  • Use the new bathroom!

It’s going to be a busy week!
